HE WAS JUST A TRAVELLING MAN
HEADING DOWN TO JERICHO.
FOR EVERY STEP HE HAD A PLAN
BUT ROBBERS DEALT HIM A BLOW.
THEY STRIPPED HIM OF ALL HIS CLOTHING
THEY BEAT HIM UNTIL HE BLED.
FOR LIFE THEY HAD ONLY LOATHING
AND THEY LEFT THIS MAN HALF DEAD.

A PRIEST HAPPENED DOWN THAT SAME WAY
BUT HIS HEART WAS FILLED WITH PRIDE.
HELPING HIM WAS TOO GREAT A LOAD
HE PASSED ON THE OTHER SIDE.
A LEVITE TOO PASSED THAT SAME PLACE
AND NO DOUBT HE HEAVED A SIGH.
THIS CRIME WAS TO HIM A DISGRACE
BUT HE TOO JUST PASSED HIM BY.

BUT THEN CAME A SAMARITAN
TRAVELLING BY THAT SAME PLACE.
WHEN HE BEHELD THIS BEATEN MAN
PITY DID HIS HEART EMBRACE.
HE DID NOT PASS BUT WENT TO HIM
TO SAVE HIM WAS HIS DESIGN.
HE BANDAGED WOUNDS ON EVERY LIMB
POURING ON OIL AND WINE.

HE PUT THE MAN ON HIS DONKEY
AND HE TOOK HIM TO AN INN.
MADE HIM COMFORTABLE AS COULD BE
THOUGH A STRANGER AND NOT KIN.
THE NEXT DAY TO THE INNKEEPER
HE GAVE MONEY FOR HIS CARE.
AND SAID IF THE COST IS STEEPER
THAT EXPENSE I TOO WILL BEAR.

HE WAS TRULY A GREAT NEIGHBOR
HE RESPONDED TO THE NEED.
BURDENS HE REFUSED TO IGNORE
THIS WAS BASIC TO HIS CREED.
JESUS PRAISED HIM FOR HIS KINDNESS
AND HE THEN DID ALL ADVISE
TO ESCAPE RELIGIOUS BLINDNESS
GO THOU TOO, AND DO LIKEWISE.
