Work at home is the best option for the able as well as the disable. In this article let us pay more emphasis to the problems faced by the disable, to be able to understand why working at home is the better option for them than going to work to a brick and mortar building. The barriers faced by disable people, who are able to use their sight and their hands and have the capability to work at a computer, still remain high. Some of the barriers include: · Wheel chair use · Speech impairment · Hard of hearing · Paralysis of limb · Loss of limb · Facial disfigurement · Severe disfigurement · Heart conditions · Respiratory problems In working environment disabilities pose a severe hindrance in physical barriers due to lack of: · Accessible buildings · Accessible car parking bays · Poor building design · Revolving doors · Door handles at the incorrect height · Lighting switches are too high · High reception desks · No rest areas near steps Transport barriers: · Can the person drive if so the difficulties faced to park and find their way to their work place if the parking is not in the same premises. · Inaccessible transport system is the office located near a bus stop · Public transport may not be accessible to all disabled people · Train platforms how accessible is it for the disable These are only some of the barriers disable people would have to face. They want to go to work for a reason. It may mostly be for economic reasons but at the same time it would be because you want to keep yourself occupied. Considering all the hardships they have to go through when they go through all these barriers it is more a nightmare than a pleasure to go to work. Given these situations, work at home will certainly be the best option for the disable. They do not have to use public or private transport and go through all the hassles to get to work or go through other barriers they may face at work. If their sight is good and has the use of their fingers, a computer with an internet link is all they need to keep them occupied as well as be financially independent. Therefore, all the work related obligatory traveling will no longer be necessary. Work at home will help disable to have better self esteem and give them the confidence that they can work as successfully or even better if they want to than their peers without any disability.
