Cast Not Away Thy Confidence by Marnie Pehrson
Once I committed to the project and began the training that was necessary to move forward, a feeling of panic seized me. Self-doubt and feelings of inadequacy and fear enveloped me. What in the world had I committed to? What made me think I could do this? People are counting on me, what if I let them down? Had I not learned about what my friend Leslie Householder calls, the terror barrier I probably would have backed out of a fabulous opportunity, retreated to the safety of the known, and forfeited the blessings that awaited me in the unknown. Anytime we take on something that causes us to venture outside our comfort zone, it is normal to experience feelings of fear, panic and dread. But if we have received a confirmation that our course is within Gods will, we may know that if we forge ahead in faith despite the odds all things will work together for our good. It is the first feeling that you must listen to when you pray about the matter. Was your initial feeling one of love, joy, peace? If so, you may know that you have made the right choice. The Apostle Paul stated it this way, Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. (Hebrews 10:35-36) I could not deny the initial confirmation of the Holy Ghost in this decision. So, I decided that if God brought me to this opportunity, then He would not leave me helpless. He would provide the talent, ability and resources to accomplish the task. Sure enough, as I proceeded forward and put my trust in God, everything fell into place. I have been amazed at how easy things have come for me and how incredibly blessed I have been. He provided patient coaches and all the resources I would ever need to accomplish my objective. Not only that, but I learned that I actually enjoyed what I once felt so fearful about doing. As I continued in this business endeavor I learned new things, met wonderful people and developed skills that I could use in every aspect of my life. I am so grateful that the Lord has taught me this principle that along with every golden opportunity, there is a natural tendency to feel fear and even terror. But if you have once received His confirmation that your course is correct, you can trust that He will provide everything you need to accomplish what He has put before you. Go forward in faith and trust Him. Thank Him in advance for what you know He will bring to pass. Your faith and gratitude will propel you beyond the terror barrier and into the blessings that await.
